What to expect
Be prepared for a warm welcome and a sense of the Holy when you visit us.
Where do I go?
Park anywhere you like. We do have reserved spaces for guests, near the entrance from Covington Highway. Those are also the closest spaces to the sanctuary entrance.
How long is the worship service?
Our service begins at 11:00 a.m. and usually lasts no more than an hour.
What is the worship service like?
Our worship service is a bit more formal than average, but not "High Church". Expect singing, prayer, and a sermon. We use the United Methodist Hymnal plus the newer "The Faith We Sing" supplement. Our talented worship team sometimes creates special altar decorations.
How should I dress?
Dress as you like. People attend in a wide range of attire -- from suits to T-shirt and jeans. You will be welcomed as you are!
What about a nursery?
We provide a nursery for infants and toddlers during the worship service. The nursery is located in The Gathering Place building.
What about money?
Visitors are our guests. Do not feel obligated to donate during the service's collection time. Contributing to our efforts is between you and God. We do not judge you by what you give.
Learn
APUMC offers several ways to learn more about our God and develop you spiritually.
Adult Sunday Classes
Some people still call this "Sunday School", but the classes that meet would all agree that it's far from a High School experience. And there are no tests!
Small groups
We occasionally have some small groups that meet, sometimes at a person's home, for spiritual studies and discussion.
Women's groups
Our United Methodist Women (UMW) have sub-groups that meet monthly. Sub-Group meetings include a special program, review of mission-oriented efforts, plus fellowship.
Special classes
Throughout the year, we often offer special daytime or evening studies, usually including seasonal studies.

Connect, Grow, Serve
A great way to connect with our members is to join a group or attend church social events. You have several choices:
- United Methodist Women
- Adult choir
- Bell choir
- Sunday Adult classes
- Small group Bible study
- Special Bible studies such as Disciple or Sisters
- Committees and work areas
- Special social events (luncheons, annual BBQ, Chili Supper, and more)
Spiritual growth is one of the areas we stress. At-church or at-a-home Bible studies supplement your own personal Bible Study. If you don't yet do at-home Bible Study on your own, talk with our pastor about how to get started.
At Avondale Pattillo you have many different ways to serve others. Here are a few ways to directly affect the lives of others:
- Join in outreach into the local community or the region.
- Pray for people as well as our outreach efforts and oversea missionaries.
- Participate in one of our many church committees or teams.
- Give to outreach and disaster relief efforts.
- Serve in the Adult Choir or be a part of a special musical program.
- Help with shut-in and hospital visitation programs.
Join us
Each week during the last hymn "the doors of the church" are open.
You can join the Avondale Pattillo community of faith by completing the form you'll find in your pew rack and then joining the pastor at the front of the sanctuary at the end of a worship service.
You can also speak to the pastor separately about joining and arrange a date to join your Avondale Pattillo brothers and sisters.
